Matthew 7:7-11 NLT
Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks. You parents-if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.
2020 is behind us now, 2021 lies ahead. Let me ask you in all seriousness, what do you want in this next year? What do you really want God to give to you? Do you truly believe the verses above?
Personally, I find these words of Jesus to be astounding, and incredibly encouraging. I can tell you with all my heart, these verses are my way of life. I am filled with extreme awe, gratitude, and overwhelmed by the extraordinary invitation and exhortation that God himself gives us, to ask him for anything over, and over again, to seek him for anything over and over again, and to knock on the door of heaven over and over again, with His promise to give what we ask for, to give us what we seek and to open the doors we have been knocking on.
I will tell you a secret: I stopped trying years ago to run through all the spiritual gymnastics of theological arguments about why these verses can’t possibly mean what they say, and instead, like a little child, they are the primary practice of my life and my faith. I really believe them! I spend much time every single day, asking, seeking, knocking, at the very throne of God, and God has done countless times as he said he would do.
HE HAS GIVEN ME SO MANY GOOD GIFTS! HE HAS PROVIDED SO MANY TIMES WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! HE HAS OPENED SO MANY DOORS!
Let me urge you and implore you to commit yourself this year to a devoted prayer life like never before. Get your ask on! Put your prayer in seek mode! Knock on God’s door till your knuckles bleed, then do it all some more.
Ask- You will receive.
Seek- You will find.
Knock- The door will be opened to you.
A lifetime verse of mine!
Ps.116:1-2 NLT
I love the Lord because he hears and answers my prayers. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath!
I close with this question. Do you pray daily as if your life depended on it? Because it does!
May you and I resolve in this new year to ask more, seek more, and knock more than ever before! God is eagerly waiting!
