Edition 94 – Israel: Miraculous God Story

Jeremiah 16:14-15 NLT

“But the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when people who are taking an oath will no longer say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who rescued the people of Israel from the land of Egypt.’ Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the people of Israel back to their land from the land of the north and from all the countries to which he had exiled them.’ For I will bring them back to this land that I gave their ancestors.

It was 3 am when the phone rang on the President’s private line. Prime Minister Golda Meir was desperate for immediate help to save her nation. The situation was as dire as you can imagine. The day before on the holiest day of the year for Israel, Yom Kippur, all the streets of Israel were empty, no trains were running, no one was at work, no TV or radio, all were either in their homes or in the synagogues worshiping God. The whole country was shut down.

Syria and Egypt launched a coordinated surprise attack that no one in Israel expected on that exact day. They sent hundreds of thousands of troops along the Suez Canal, along with 2000 tanks, and 550 aircraft against fewer than 500 Israeli defenders with only 3 tanks. A massive invasion had begun. It was overwhelming and horrifying.

The President, whom Golda Meir called at 3 am that October of 1973 was none other than President Richard Nixon. When he answered, Golda said, “Mr. President, we need your help. If you do not help us, by tomorrow evening Israel will no longer exist.” She was not exaggerating! It was really that desperate. President Nixon recounts that at that very moment he heard his mother’s voice speaking to him. When he was a little boy, his mother would read Bible stories to him. David and Goliath, Moses and the Red Sea, Joshua and the battle of Jericho. His mother told him “Richard, someday you will be in a position to save the Jewish people. When you are, make sure you do everything in your power to save them.”

His moment had come. He said, “Golda what do you need?” She read off a list of all the armaments and equipment they would need. As soon as the President got off the phone, he gave the order to the appropriate people to make this happen. What President Nixon ordered took 566 flights to deliver to Israel!  

This is astounding! This is a miraculous, incredible God story, illustrating the power of Almighty God. All of Nixon’s advisors had urged him not to help Israel, including his Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, a Jewish man himself!

All that most people know about Richard Nixon is Watergate, that he was the only President to ever resign. But did you know that to Israel, to Golda Meir, he is the President that God used to help save the entire Jewish nation? And the voice that moved him to such courageous action?  The words of his mother, speaking once again to him at that precise moment!

Why do I share all of this? We, as God’s people, are living in very dark, evil, tumultuous days. It is easy to lose all hope, it is easy for your faith to become weak, and we lose sight of the Lord God Almighty who does great and miraculous things. Our God makes history. We need fresh inspiration for our faith. We all need a fresh vision of the God of Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac. The God who never lies and always keeps his promises. God is absolutely faithful!

I promise you, dear believers in God, you will be amazed at what you see, what you hear, of the miraculous power and intervention of God, and his promise to the Jewish people. After 2000 years in exile, on the very day that the prophets foretold, God intervened!! What you see in this documentary and hear from eyewitnesses will blow your mind!

I have never, ever seen a series that moved me more, blessed my faith, and reminded me once again of the Mighty God we have who works wonders and miracles for his people.

He is the God we cling to, He is the God who works His miraculous wonders for us, His people. Never, ever, ever lose sight of that, or let go of your faith in Almighty God who saved us. He will intervene in our history!
