THE MIRACLE OF THE SEED
Did you know that a single seed kernel of corn planted in the ground will produce one ear of corn containing, on average, 600 new kernels? That’s one seed in the ground resulting in 600 new seeds at harvest time! Now get this—If you plant 1,000 seed kernels of corn you reap 600,000 new seeds at harvest time! That’s astounding.
Most of us did not grow up on a farm. We have no agricultural background, no real world experience of the astounding miracle of the seed. We simply go to the grocery store and buy our food. If you were to take a little bit of time and look up on the internet the crop yields of seeds of various edible plants, you’d be amazed by the extraordinary miracle of the multiplication of a single seed. It’s truly mind-blowing—something only God Almighty could design and make happen.
You are asking yourself, “Why is Pastor Mark writing about seeds?” Here is why—because it is one of the most vital truths of scripture, right from the mouth of God, and it will greatly impact and enrich your life if you practice “the miracle of the seed” as prescribed by God. The fact is, research indicates most Christians do not practice “the miracle of the seed.”
“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. God loves the person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way he will give you many opportunities to do good. Yes, you will be enriched so that you can give even more generously.”—2 Cor. 9 NLT
I can personally attest to the veracity of this powerful truth. For 50 years now, I have practiced to the best of my ability the miracle of the seed principle. I have planted abundantly in every way I possibly could. I took every opportunity God gave me over the years to do good and to help others. I took every opportunity I could in ministry to preach and teach as many times, and in as many places and venues as God allowed. I’ve given away all my messages. I’ve given away all my songs, including thousands of my Medicinal Spirit CDs. I’ve passed on all my Thoughts Provoking articles of wisdom, insights, and truth. I have sown abundantly in prayer. I’ve sown and sown and sown, in my own simple, ordinary ways. I’ve given away thousands and thousands of dollars, which is the seed referred to in the text of 1 Corinthians 9. I still continue sowing that seed till this very day, even though many might say it makes no sense at this time in my life to do so.
But here’s the thing—God has kept his promise. I have reaped a harvest in ways that I never imagined. God has multiplied the seeds and the bread he’s given back to me in astounding, mind-boggling ways. My little kernels of corn became thousands and thousands of bushels, just as God promised.
Remember this always: “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over! The generous man will prosper.”—God
When you conduct transactions with God he always does exactly what he promised he would do. However, though the farmer plants his seed in the spring and several months later reaps his harvest in the fall, sometimes our planting of many seeds may not realize a miraculous reaping till years later. Just keep planting, planting, and planting some more. It will happen. I have experienced it time and time again.—Pastor Mark
“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, the person who sows generously will also reap generously!”—God
